Childbirth in Central Africa

How Can You Help?

The need is so great, it can only be filled through the efforts of many. Your gift of money, suppliesor prayerwill help ensure the volunteers are properly trained and adequately equipped to provide care.

Sending midwives to train skilled birth attendants is only the first step. While the volunteers concentrate on learning skills to assist families, their communities will be working to establish maternal health centers to care for expectant mothers and train more skilled birth attendants.

Money

The estimated cost of training 30 skilled birth attendants around the Great Lakes Region of Africa is $20,000. Any monetary donation you can make to this program is appreciated.

  • $50 hires a car for one day
  • $150 trains one skilled birth attendant
  • $400 provides housing for the midwives who will train the skilled birth attendants
  • $800 rents a hall for the volunteers to stay in during the training
  • $3,500 sends one midwife to train the volunteers
  • $5,000 builds one maternal health center

Supplies

In addition to training the skilled birth attendants, we will need to provide them with the materials they will use to safely care for expectant families. Please contact Jennifer to arrange to donate any of the following, or other items.

  • antibacterial soap
  • disposable gloves
  • prenatal vitamins
  • thermometers
  • birth balls and air pumps
  • stethoscopes
